Shah Muhammad Sagir is believed to have served during the close of the fourteenth and the beginning of the fifteenth centuries as his yusuf-zulekha has commendatory verses for Gauda King ghiyasuddin azam shah (1389-1410). He was perhaps the court poet of Azam Shah and wrote the volume at his request. Although it has praise for the parents and teachers of the poet, it does not mention their names or residence. Muhammad Sagir is considered to be the first writer to introduce Perso-Arabic literature to Bengalis. [Wakil Ahmed]
