Kawkhali Upazila (rangamati district)  with an area of 339.29 sq km, is bounded by lakshmichhari and naniarchar upazilas on the north, raozan and rangunia upazilas on the south, rangamati sadar and Rangunia upazila on the east, Raozan and fatikchhari upazilas on the west.

Kawkhali (Town) consists of one mouza. The area of the town is 62.16 sq km. The town has a population of 7038; male 53.07%, female 46.93%. Literacy rate among the town people is 28.2%. The town has one dakbungalow.

Administration Kawkhali thana was established in 1976 and was turned into an upazila in 1985. It consists of 5 union parishads, 10 mouzas and 149 villages.
