Aur Khan Aibak (1235-1236) governor of Bengal under Delhi Sultan iltutmish, assumed power at lakhnauti after the death of malik saifuddin aibak. tughrial tughan khan, governor of Bihar, challenged his position. Tughan Khan demanded the governorship of Bengal from Aur Khan on the plea that it was an established practice on the part of the Bihar governor to take the charge of Bengal whenever there was a vacancy there. Tughan Khan marched against Aur Khan without even waiting for any reply from him. A pitched battle was fought somewhere between Basankot and Lakhnauti, in which Aur Khan was defeated and killed. Tughan Khan then became the master of the united territories of Lakhnauti and Bihar. [ABM Shamsuddin Ahmed]
